How to Protect Bathroom Interiors from Plumbing Errors

The bathroom is the only space in your home where life slows down its pace. You are perfectly in harmony with your body, mind, and soul. The shower, the tub, the toilet, and the sauna stream calm your spirit and bring a deep sense of inner peace. For this, you will need a sophisticated interior design, which can streamline the fixtures with the water lines, drains, and the waste lines leading to the cesspools. Any misalignment or damage can ruin your bathroom and spoil the hygiene.

Personally, I have had a bad experience with the poor standards of plumbing and cesspool construction methods. The first problem was the terrible odor from the bathroom washbasin. I could hardly stand and have a clean shave or a face-wash. I have also had problems with stinking bathtub, muddy water in the shower, and leaking drain pipes.

Cesspool Vent

The cesspool vent is connected to the exterior side that leads to the drain field. Its task is to remove

  • Sewer Gases
  • Sewer odor
  • Control air and fluid pressure
  • Siphon water from traps
  • Control fluid and air flow rate

Normally the vent stack should be installed parallel to the waste pipe stacks. It is the only way of ensuring proper flow.

Venting Problem

The problem with the cesspool vent in my house was aging. Coupled with other issues like interior rusting, corrosion, and cracks, the vent had clogged. My initial attempt was cleaning and rust removal. It did remove the odor for a few days. But the problem continued after that. So, I had to call a cesspool specialist and replace the vent.

The funny aspect of bathroom plumbing repair is its chain connection. You solve one problem, and the plumber discovers five more. Then you have to get all of them fixed. Otherwise, you may end up with worse problems than ever before. My case was no different.

Cesspool Plug

There are two clean-out plugs within the cesspool tanks. One of them controls the sewage flow and pressure from home.  The second plug controls the flow of scum and sludge to the exterior drain. Improper maintenance can lead to structural instability. The result is abnormal variation in pressure which can push the scum in reverse direction. It can flood the toilet, sinks, and even the bathtub.  Fortunately, cesspool repairer could diagnose the problem immediately. His plan of action involved

  • Emptying of cesspool
  • Cleaning and rust removal
  • Disinfection
  • Replacement of clean-out plus
  • Cleaning of sewage and sludge pipes
  • Installation of disinfection layer within the cesspool interior walls
  • Installation of leak and overflow sensors on the cleanout plugs

It took almost two days for the cesspool expert to complete the action plan. Since then, I haven’t faced any problem with my bathroom interior fixtures and pipes. I can feel only the gentle fragrance of the air-fresheners. I spend my bathroom time listening to music and having a good experience in solitude. I am thankful to the cesspool expert.

Importance of Having a Healthy Plumbing Network

A healthy plumbing network can keep your home safe and secure from infections and diseases. The initial piping foundations have to be extensive and cover the entire house. You may have to draw extended pipes from the existing ones when you want to expand your home. Keeping a distance and insulating the gap between water pipes and drainage pipes can eliminate the possibility of leaks and damages. Keeping the electric lines at a safe distance can protect the house from fire and other risks.

Plumbing Network

Prior to building my new home, I had prepared bigger plans for the interior and exterior designs. Being an interior designer, I had all the greatest and the most innovative ideas for my living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and the laundry room. I gave my designs to the architect and the construction engineer. They were pleased to see innovative design patterns and structures. Then they asked me about the plumbing plan. Oh! That was something which I had missed. I had no knowledge also.

Then we had to take the help of a professional plumber who had many years of experience in designing and installing the networks. He was good in water pipes, drains, and sewage pipes. He wanted to know how and where I wanted the cesspool to be. He also wanted to how the design of a few other connections.

  • Cold water pipes
  • Hot water pipes
  • Natural gas pipes
  • Venting pipes
  • Drain pipes
  • Supply pipes, etc

Network Design

Then he gave a complete design, which consisted of all these components and more. The main drain started from the vent stack and passed through the walls between bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room, boiler room, toilets, and other rooms with the drain outlet.  He had marked the water supply pipe from the municipal supply which eventually branched into all the rooms where water was required.

Fixture Installation

The fixture installation design was equally impressive. He had studied the blueprint and planned the installations in an optimized way. Connections to the following fixtures were designed to conserve water and energy.

  • Water heater
  • Faucets and taps on the sinks, washbasins, and water fountains
  • Appliances like washing machines, dishwashers, steam cookers, etc
  • Hot water fixtures in the kitchen and bathroom
  • Water pipes to toilets, bathtubs, etc

Drain-Pipe Installation

The distance between the drain and water pipe was distinct and practical. He had clearly marked the gas and power line locations and directions within the house interiors and exteriors. The entire system looked safe and practical.

Cesspool Installation

The most impressive aspect was the design and construction plan for the cesspool. The distance between the house and the cesspool was optimum for balancing the flow rate and fluid pressure within the networks.

I have been living in the house for many years now. I have not faced any big issues apart from regular maintenance and part replacements. Now, I have realized the importance of professional plumbers and cesspool specialists to keep my home hygienic and healthy with a vibrant plumbing network.

Is External Plumbing a Solution to Protecting Interior Design

Having a system of internal plumbing pipes could be a potential threat for your expensive interior designs. You will not know how to detect the pipe that is leaking. Then you will not know how to dig the wall and repair the pipe. The leak could be only an extension of the problem. The actual source could be in some other part of the section in another room. Then you have to go on digging all the rooms and destroy the entire interior design.  Think about having an external piping system for the water lines and drains and sewage pipes. That sounded like a good idea for me. I can detect the defects faster and fix them within a short time. I can save on the cost of wall digging, rebuilding, and interior design remaking.

External Pipes

Let me start with the external pipes because we have enough problems with the internal pipes. The first aspect I had to think was about the material. I searched for an online answer and got two of them. One was the CPVC and the other one was galvanized iron. The main problems with the iron material are

  • Internal and external rusting
  • Corrosion
  • Deposits of molds and mildew
  • Failure of pipes due to pressure fluctuations
  • Problems with wall drilling for pipe fixing

Then I started wondering why I am reading a big list of disadvantages with the galvanized iron. My next choice was CPVC (Chlorinated PVC). I found the material to be highly beneficial for

  • Resistance to rusting and corrosion
  • Resistance to heat, humidity and freezing effects
  • Easy to install within and outside the homes
  • Resistant to pressure variations
  • Capable of any flow rate without reverse flow

ABS is the other choice of exterior piping system. I had to take a decision based on the exterior architectural aspects also. It is because the system should not look like patches over the exterior architecture. The other significant parameter I had to consider was the connection of sewer and drain pipes to the cesspool. I was mainly concerned about the

  • The fluid flow rate and pressure
  • Load on the cesspool control valves
  • Maintenance ease and comfort for the drain valves and sewage valves

Internal Pipes

  • No exposure to external elements
  • Long durability
  • Protection from damages
  • Zero maintenance for exposure to UV
  • Looks aesthetically better

Similarly, I had experienced many problems with internal plumbing like

  • Difficulty in detecting the defect roots
  • The complexity of internal pipe designs
  • The enhanced risk to internal designs, etc

The Solution

Finally, I got a solution to my problem of choosing between the external and internal piping. It came in the form of an efficient cesspool service system. The professional cesspool experts analyzed the entire system of my house architecture plan and suggested the best method. I have not faced a single problem from the day of installation until today in any form.
